Okay, so a few hours after I wrote that entry, Brendan came to my house.
He opened with this line, which frankly, made me snort with laughter despite the fact I was trying to be Miss Cool and Collected:
"Yeah, so, a conversation about erectile dysfunction would have been more fun than that conversation we had today."
That boy could always turn a phrase, I'll tell you.
So, basically, Bren stood on my porch with his hands in his pockets and his saddest looking eyes while he told me he's been absolutely miserable without me.
He wanted to know who I was dating.
He told me he isn't seeing anyone. He can't.
He misses me.
He's nothing without me.
He wants me to take him back.
Now, I ask you, honestly, WHAT is a girl to say to that???
Essentially, I started with: "Well, we can't get back together right now."
"Why?" Brendan retorted. "Our stars out of alignment or something?"
(Okay, fine, mock me if you will, but must you wear such a condescending smile when you do it?? Ugh!)
(In fact, no, no mocking me. I have greater faith in the planets and zodiac than I do in your winsome smile, punk.)
Ahem.
"No." I said very strongly. "Because you make me crazy. And you make me cry. I don't want to cry over you."
"Didn't I make you laugh more than cry, though?" Brendan said, his voice all quiet and soft and serious, so much so that my heart did that shudder thing again.
"It's not enough, Bren." I remember whispering.
"Please..." He said, taking my hand in his and pressing it against his chest which almost made me melt into a puddle right there...
"I can't do this right now, Bren. I can't. I'm too mixed up."
He just looked at me with those eyes of his, then turned and walked slowly to his car.
And it took everything I had not
to run after him and beg him to stay.
