Nya crossed her arms across her chest and tapped her foot as AJ peeled into the driveway and killed the engine. "What?" She asked curtly as he got out.

"Good morning to you too, sunshine." AJ said. "You look awful." He said, looking her up and down with a critical eye.

"And again I wonder why it was we broke up again..." Nya said sarcastically, finally retrieving her newspaper and turning for her own front door.

"I was just saying...were you drinking last night? I recognize these signs. You never were much of a drinker..." AJ said behind her.

"What are you doing here? I certainly didn't summon you for a critique on how I spend my leisure time." Nya shot back.

I need to talk to you." AJ said. "Nya, please. Let's not always be like this."

"It's always important. You fail to realize that the world does not solely revolve on your comings and goings, and that I'm frankly in the middle of something right now."

"What? Making out with the neighbor boy? What is he, Nya? 12?" AJ snorted. "And are those highlights?"

"You leave Jamie alone!" Nya shrieked, wincing in pain before closing her mouth. In her painful state, she failed to see Jamie halt on the way to his door, turn around and watch her carefully at the sound of his name. He stood on the balls of his feet, ready to sprint back to her side if AJ began to bother her. Why she was screaming about him, he didn't know, but he wasn't leaving this spot until AJ left his.

"I'm sorry." AJ said, sounding genuinely contrite. "Is he the new beau, then?"

"Why?" Nya asked, still defensive. "You want us to double date with that bunny I caught you in bed with?"

"I'm not seeing her anymore." AJ said quietly. "Is he nice?"

"Do you care?" Nya argued.

"Nya, I'm trying to be mature and I'm trying to maintain any shred of friendship between us. I don't want us to always be like this - this tense, ugly relationship we have now."

Nya sighed, sensing AJ was being honest with her. "Yes, he's very nice. He won a race yesterday, and there was quite the party last night."

"He won?" AJ said with surprise. "That's great. Have you been to a race yet?"

Nya shook her head. "No. Not yet."

"You should go." AJ reasoned. "Probably quite good fun - for that sort of racing."

Nya smiled slightly. "Yes, that sort of racing." She pushed her hair from her eyes and looked up at him. "What are you doing here, anyway."

"I need a favour." AJ said. "Can you drive me the airport tomorrow?"

"You have a car." Nya said, stating the obvious.

"Yes, but I don't want to leave it in the car park for five days." He said, looking over his shoulder at his sleek black sports car. Nya couldn't blame him for that as she too looked at the beautiful car in her driveway. Relenting, she nodded again.

"Sure. What are friends for." She said softly. "Is that what we are?"

"Friends." AJ said firmly. "Thanks, Nya. I'll be over in the morning." He leaned over and kissed her cheek before turning for his car.

As Nya finally went back inside, she had no idea that Jamie was still rooted to the spot, his hands balling into fists at the vision of AJ kissing his Nya.

Or that fact that his head was spinning over her being 'his Nya'.
