[chapter eighteen]

Jamie was glaring at the back of AJ's head so intently, he was surprised it didn't burst into flame.

AJ and Nya had been wandering around her back yard for a good twenty minutes, and Jamie had been watching them the whole time - except for the one time he ducked behind his bedroom curtain when Nya glanced up at his house.

He would kill to know what they were saying right now.

They were going to get back together. He knew it. He knew Casey was lying to him about his conversation with Nya. He knew she still loved AJ. He knew the power of the pants couldn't save him now. He knew their relationship was screwed.

Damn Limeys.

"This is exceptionally awkward." Nya said, glancing up at AJ as she pushed her hair from her eyes. "Do other normal people ask their ex-boyfriends for dating advice?"

AJ laughed. "We've never been the poster children for normal, love." Nya nodded in agreement and AJ continued as they sat down on a bench nestled inside one of her gardens. "You like him, admit it. And he obviously likes you, from all I've seen and heard. I say, go for it."

Nya looked down at her hands and shook her head. "I don't want to...I don't want to get hurt again..."

AJ tilted her chin with his hand, forcing her to look into his eyes. "I'm a wanker, Nya. You deserve better. Don't base all future happiness on the scant affection I gave you. You deserve more. The only risk you face is not taking one at all. Do something."

"Can I ask you something, and you promise to be honest?" Nya questioned. AJ nodded, and Nya took a deep breath and continued. "Why did you cheat on me? What was it about me you didn't love anymore?"

AJ took her hand in his and kissed it gently. "That was never the reason, Nya. I loved you too much, and I knew you didn't love me the way I loved you. But I also knew you would never leave me unless I did something drastic, and I couldn't face the thought of you settling for a life with me, instead of finding the right one for yourself."

Nya sighed again. "Why two of them?" She asked coldly, making AJ's cheeks flush in the cool air.

"I told you. I'm a wanker. And it always looked so sexy in dirty films."

"Thank god we've broken up, because I really dislike you now." Nya said firmly, though with a hint of a smile.

They stood up and AJ dug for his car keys. "Go for it, Nya. Really. Go date the racer boy. Be happy." He pulled her into an affectionate hug and kissed the crown of her head. "If it doesn't work out, and you fancy a wanker for a boyfriend, give me a call."

"Goodbye, AJ."

**

Jamie was positively seething as he watched AJ put the make on Nya - kissing her hand, cupping her chin, hugging her.

He felt like throwing up.

Jamie dove for the floor as Nya looked up towards his bedroom window again, cursing at the carpet burn on his knee as much for his lack of stealth capabilities.

Great.

Now he had injuries, an attitude problem and no Nya.

This week was starting to suck.
