"Huh." Jamie said after a long pause as AJ drove away.
"Hrm." Nya echoed.
"So, that's your boyfriend?" Jamie said, trying to hide a smirk.
"EX-boyfriend." Nya corrected. "Yes."
"I see." Jamie said slowly. "He's...um, nice?"
Nya snorted. "He's not nice."
"Want to tell me about him?" Jamie questioned easily.
"Why should I?" Nya countered, narrowing her eyes a bit.
"Well, seeing as how I just threatened to bodyslam him, I'd like to know why exactly I was defending your honor back there." Jamie answered.
"I don't remember anything about a bodyslam." Nya said, trying to hide a small smile.
"It was implied." Jamie emphasized, making Nya smile fully. "Emotionally abusive?" He tried again.
"Well, we fought a lot." Nya amended her earlier words. "We broke up a bit ago, after dating for a few years."
"Ah." Jamie nodded. "So the stuff he wanted...he lived here?"
Nya blushed slightly. "He had his own place, but for all intents and purposes, yes. And some of his things are still here. I just didn't want to deal with him today, or have you..." Nya bit off her words. "I just didn't want to deal with him."
It was Jamie's turn to hide a small smile. "You didn't want me to know your sordid past?"
Nya glared at him silently.
"So." Jamie said easily. "That explains you."
"What do you mean?" Nya demanded.
"Explains this whole 'frigid' thing you have going on." Jamie replied. "Must be because of the sordid past."
"I'm not frigid!" Nya argued. "I'm just...I'm just British."
"The British are frigid?" Jamie teased.
"Do you ever see the Queen smile?" Nya asked, tilting her head to one side and regarding him.
Jamie laughed. "So...you just didn't want me to know about AJ?"
"I wasn't keen on your knowing I dated a madman, no." Nya said, her voice dropping.
"Because you were afraid I might not like you?" Jamie asked hopefully, rocking back on his heels and smiling at her.
Nya's face closed down. "I don't care if you like me or not."
"Okay."
"Alright then." Nya nodded curtly. "Thanks for the plumbing."
"I'll be expecting my lawn to be mowed by the time I get home on Sunday."
"Bastard."
"Hey, Nya?" Jamie asked after he had walked away a few steps. Nya turned from the front door to face him again. "Why did you tell him I was a good race car driver? I thought only F1 drivers qualified in your book?"
Nya shrugged once before the door
snicked shut behind her.
