~Jeff's POV~

Gee, Madelyn is just brimming with enthusiasm over my truce idea.

I'm trying to be nice. Really. I mean, I like Madelyn a lot.

She drives me crazy, sure.

She's persistent and nosy and altogether too perky sometimes, but aside from that…

What was I saying?

Oh yeah. I like her.

More than I should.

More than I ever admitted.

More than I ever want her to know.

"Cold spaghetti-o's or cold hot dogs?"

Huh?

Oh yeah. Food.

You know, this whole candlelight, kitchen thing reminds me of that one movie with Kim Basinger and that one guy where they…

Focus here, Gordon. Let's not be thinking about Madelyn and the soft core porn movie where they feed each other sexy food and stuff at the same time.

"Yuck. Neither. Any PB and J around?" I ask instead.

"I can do that." Madelyn says, digging around in cabinets for a loaf of bread in the flickering candlelight. She shivers slightly and I put a hand on her arm.

Now she looks like she's been burned as she jumps away from me, her eyes reflecting the flickering of the light.

"You're cold." I say matter-of-factly. Her arm is cold and covered in goose bumps.

"It's negative four thousand outside, Gordon. Of course I'm cold." She shoots at me.

"I…um, I'll try and build a fire in the other room."

"With your scouting skill?" She asks sarcastically.

"Or you can freeze to death. I don't really care." I fire back and she smirks in response.

"Nice." She smiles genuinely. "Spoken like a true smart ass."

"Fuck off."

"Fuck you."

Boy, what I wouldn't give…

Jesus! Focus!

"I'll get it started. You do the food, I'll do the heat." I say, then realizing what I just said and with an image of that movie still in my head…

I really am a bonehead sometimes.

"Whatever you say, Mister Gordon. You want fries with that?"

I spin on my heel without a word and pray to god that there's firewood inside and that I can light a fire without burning the whole house down.

Here's hoping.
