[chapter four]

Disclaimer: If you've heard of them, I don't own them. Everything else is mine, so no stealing, pretty please. ;-)

Yes, they really are friends. Robby said so in an interview. :-)

"So what's the problem?" Jimmie asked, shifting on pit wall and adjusting his sunglasses slightly.

Robby sighed as he watched the 99 car get pushed by them towards the start of the qualifying line.

"Buddy? What's the problem? She sounds really cute." Jimmie repeated.

"She is. She's really cute, and she's funny, and she's smarter than any 10 people I know." Robby nodded slowly.

"Soo…"

"So, she's like, 24." Robby muttered.

"Ah."

"Yeah."

"Bit of a cradle robber, aren't you?" Jimmie teased, nudging Robby in the ribs.

"I'm not!" Robby defended. "I'm not. And besides, I haven't seen her since, I just…"

"I'm just kidding, dude. Relax."

"But you're right. I'm…I'm…"

"Just call her up and ask her to dinner." Jimmie said, changing his teasing tone to a serious one.

"She's.Twenty.Four." Robby said deliberately.

"Who cares." Jimmie answered immediately.

"I do. I don't want to be a dirty old man. And besides, maybe she doesn't like me. Maybe she really did just need some information."

"That's why she sat there for two and a half hours? For information?" Jimmie said lightly. "Just call her, and ask her out."

"Nah."

"Your loss, it sounds like." Jimmie replied. "If she doesn't care about age or who you are, then you shouldn't."

"What if she turns me down?" Robby asked quietly.

"Okay, now you sound like you're about 17." Jimmie laughed.

**

"Ron?" Robby asked, knocking on the office door. "I was just…uh, have you decided on the intern roster for the summer?"

"Hi Robby." Ron smiled as he stood up from his desk. "We're still going through a few last minute applications, but we should have a decision in the next few days. Why? You have someone to recommend?"

Robby sighed slightly, Alexa's words echoing in his ears as he fought the urge to mention her name. "No…I was…I was just curious. Thanks."

"Sure thing, man."

Robby closed the door quietly and trudged back to his own office, Alexa's laugh, her smile, still replaying in his mind.

If she ended up working somewhere else, like DEI or Morgan-McClure, he would regret not saying anything.

But he had to respect her reasoning for not needing his recommendation.

Damn. And that just made her even more attractive to him in his mind.

This was going to be a long week.
