"Whoa." Jimmie breathed to himself, causing Jeff and Robbie to look at him from across the crowded office where they had been eyeing testing results.

"You okay, man?" Jeff asked, looking with concern at his younger friend. "You look like you've just seen a ghost."

Jimmie nodded and gave them both an unconvincing smile. With muttered explanations of being sick, apologies, and a request to leave work early for the day, Jimmie tore out of the building and hopped into his car, hell bent on going to a place he'd never been and had never even seen.

He could feel Vrai - she was in a field somewhere, calling the goddess…calling him.

He didn't know consciously where he was going, but Vrai's power seemed to lead him thorough the streets and out into the country. After several miles down a country road, Jimmie turned off the road and pulled into a small clearing, where Vrai's car was parked nearby.

Quietly and cautiously, Jimmie walked through the trees until he saw Vrai, his breath catching in his throat at the sight of her. She was clad in very elaborate robes, her hands to the sky, her eyes closed and her voice chanting over and over until he could feel her power in his chest, in his heart.

"May the powers of The One, the source of all creation, all-pervasive, omnipotent, eternal, may the Goddess, the Lady of the Moon, and the God, Horned Hunter of the Sun, may the powers of the Spirits of the Stones, rulers of the elemental realms, may the powers of the stars above and the Earth below bless this place, and this time, and I who am with You."

She turned suddenly, her eyes opening and locking on his. "You heard me." She whispered.

"If I'd been a million miles away, I would have heard you." Jimmie said softly, stepping closer to her cautiously. "It was like a thunderbolt."

Vrai smiled and looked down at the ground. "I'm sorry I pushed you away the other night. I wasn't ready."

Jimmie's eyes lit up. "Did I do it right? I knew it!" He said gleefully, making Vrai laugh at his reaction.

"You did it right. Not that I'm surprised, but I still wouldn't let you in." Vrai repeated.

Jimmie looked at her for a long moment. "Was this a test?" He asked, motioning vaguely with his hands. "This whole…separation?"

"In a way, yes." Vrai agreed. "You passed, by the way. Jimmie, there are a lot of reasons for us to keep our distance from each other, and I think that…"

"Like what?" Jimmie interrupted.

"Like…" Vrai motioned vaguely. "Are you ready for this? I know I've asked you before, but are you really ready? Because, frankly, your power scares me a little."

"It scares you?" Jimmie asked softly. "Thank god, because I'm fucking terrified of it sometimes."

"See, that's what I'm talking about. If you aren't…"

Jimmie held up a hand. "But I'm more scared of not knowing my ability. And more importantly, of not having you."

"Having me?" Vrai asked, looking down.

"Having you." Jimmie said firmly.

"You never 'had' me." Vrai said, her voice slightly defiant as she looked up at him.

"I know." Jimmie said, biting his lip. "It's been keeping me up nights."

Vrai looked at him and saw the teasing glint in his eye and allowed herself to laugh out loud. "That's not what I meant, and you know it."

"I know." Jimmie whispered. "Teach me, Vrai. Please."

Vrai looked at him, not saying a word, though he could read the doubt in her eyes at his words.

"Vrai." Jimmie said, interrupting her as he took another step closer, until their chests were almost touching. "We need each other. Not for power, and not just for you to teach me. We need each other. Or, at least, I need you. You're my other half, in every way. It's like…it's like my skin hums whenever I'm near you. I love that feeling." He tilted her head up, his eyes searching hers and seeing tears reflecting in them. "I need you." He whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her lips, gasping as power flowed back and forth between them, filling him from the inside out.

"That's the sexiest thing anyone has ever said to me." Vrai said, her voice quavering slightly and making Jimmie smile.

"Do you think we'd have found each other if I'd never walked into that shop?" Jimmie asked, needing to know her answer.

She nodded once. "Yes."

"Me too." He said as he sighed and pulled her against him, his skin flushing and tingling at the contact of their bodies. "God, sex must be incredible between two witches." He muttered against her hair. He could feel her shift and look up at the sky, could hear her murmuring something before pulling back to look at him.

"Want to find out?"
