(Thursday, Two days later)
Caitlin looked up from her perch on the recliner as a computer manual whizzed by her head.
"ARGH! I can't stand this, I can't stand this, I can't stand this!"
Jon huffed as he jumped up from the computer and stormed across the room.
"Problems, honey?" Caitlin asked sweetly as she closed her book
and looked over at her best friend.
"Yes. The problem is that I'm an idiot and can't figure out this latest
stupid software that Scout installed on here!" Jon exclaimed as he turned
back and pointed at the computer with a "J'accuse!" stance.
"What are you trying to do?" Caitlin asked patiently, getting up
and walking over to the computer.
"Create a new spreadsheet to track class productivity for our latest
rookie class." Jon explained as he sat back down in front of the computer.
Caitlin examined the spreadsheet program for a minute, before scooting Jon
over to share the chair. "Ok, what you've got here is the latest version,
so it's mostly the same, with a few exceptions." She explained as she
clicked the mouse over the computer screen.
A few minutes, and several deep breaths later, Jon was under control and happily
typing away at the program as Caitlin walked over to resume reading her book.
At the same moment, the phone rang shrilly.
"I'll get it!"
"It's for me!"
"I got it!"
"I'll get it!" Four voices rang out as a mad dash ensued for see
who could get to the phone first. Caitlin admitted defeat when she heard Alex
pick up the upstairs extension. Settling back down, she was surprised a few
minutes later when Alex called.
"Cait...phone!" Alex bellowed from his room.
Figuring it was a call from the library about a missed shift, Caitlin walked
slowly to the phone and picked it up. "Hello?" She asked politely.
"Caitlin? This is JC Chasez calling. We met a few days ago at the library?"
Caitlin smiled broadly at the polite greeting--she meets so many celebrities,
she has to be reminded of the meetings, she thought to herself jokingly.
"JC! It's great to here from you!" Caitlin said brightly.
Jon immediately hopped up and began an elaborate pantomime. Mouthing the words
and jumping around, Caitlin managed to decipher "No way! Is that him!
Go girl!" before waving her hand and turning her back on him.
"I was calling to see if you were still interested in exploring Orlando
with me. It turns out that I don't have to record any vocals tomorrow, so
I have the whole day free, and I was hoping you would as well." JC's
smooth voice said.
"Actually, that would be perfect. My schedule at work this week gives
me tomorrow off, since I have to work the Saturday shift." Caitlin answered
happily.
"Great! How about I pick you up around 2? Does that work?" JC asked.
"Sounds perfect." Caitlin responded. After giving JC directions
to the house, she paused for a moment. "JC, thanks for asking me. Really.
I appreciate it."
"I'm looking forward to it. See you tomorrow Caitlin." JC said softly.
"Me too. See you tomorrow." After hearing JC hang up the phone,
Caitlin stared at the phone for a moment before slowing hanging up.
"Oh no way." She said softly as she heard Jon approach from the
kitchen.
"Tell me Mr. Rock Star did not just ask my best friend out on a date!"
Jon exclaimed when he saw Caitlin's face.
Whirling around, she faced Jon. "It is not a date. He's just being nice."
Caitlin defended herself.
"Rii-iight." Jon drawled. "He wants you." Jon said with
a grin.
"Shut up!" Caitlin exclaimed. "We're just going to cruise around
Orlando, he'll show me some cool spots to go, and that will be the end of
it. If nothing else, it's something for me to brag to everyone about--I went
sightseeing with JC from *Nsync. Ok?" Caitlin said quietly.
"Whatever you say. When are you guys going?" Jon asked.
"Tomorrow around 2. Are any of you guys going to be here?" Caitlin
asked apprehensively.
"Alex is off, but Scout and I will be at work. So I guess you got lucky
there." Jon said with a grin. "He won't have to endure my game of
20 questions." He added with an evil grin.
"Yeah, he'll just have to endure Alex playing the role of Father Figure.
Just what I need." Caitlin said with a deep sigh. "It would be one
thing if this were a date, but it's not."
"Well, try to convince Alex of that." Jon said kindly.
JC hung up the phone and smiled broadly to himself. He really liked this girl,
even though he didn't know the first thing about her. He was looking forward
to seeing her again. Then a thought struck him.
"Uh, guys? If you were sightseeing around Orlando, what would you go
see?"
