~Jasmine's POV~

Um, oops.

That might have been too far.

I think I hurt his feelings.

He's backing away slightly, that blush still on his too cute for words cheeks, looking at me with an expression I can't even begin to read.

"Um. Thanks?" He says uncertainly.

"Geez, Jeff. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to … okay, that was harsh. I didn't mean it like that." I apologize, as he looks at me, hurt, confused. "My mouth sometimes beats my brain to the punch."

"S'okay." He says softly. "It's true."

"No, I mean, I don't know you, but I'm sure that it's not … "

"No, it's true." He repeats, then looks at me. "My smile is too nice to be human."

My jaw drops open slightly at his words, at his triumphant gaze at me.

Oh, no he didn't. He didn't just sass me.

This could be more fun than I thought.

(an hour and a half later)

"Kids, I gotta go. My boss is making me work early tomorrow." Jimmie says, throwing a pointed look at Jeff, who laughs.

"Sorry, dude. Rick's orders." He defends, standing up as Jimmie heads for the door. "I guess I better head out as well."

Alex, Scout and Jon call out their goodbyes to Jimmie and Jeff as I walk them to the door. "Thanks for coming over, guys." I say, opening the door. "And for the beer." I say to Jeff, who smiles in return.

Jimmie drops a quick kiss onto my cheek. "Later skater." He says to me, and slaps Jeff on the back. "See you in the morning."

Only Jimmie would say 'later skater'. He's such a tool sometimes.

"Okay." Jeff calls out, as Jimmie jogs across the lawn to his house.

"Um, thanks. For having me over and stuff." Jeff says, shifting from one foot to the other.

"No problem. We had a good time." I say, leaning against the doorframe, mirroring our stances from the last time we stood out here. "Since you were so well behaved, maybe we'll let you come over again sometime."

"Gee, Mom, can I?" He asks, grinning like a little boy and I can't help but laugh.

"Will you do something for me?" I ask spontaneously, refusing to let him off the hook so easily. I've hardly harassed him all night, except for the kitchen conversation.

"Anything." He says, taking a step closer to me, his face serious.

"Say a cuss word." I ask with a grin.

"What?" He laughs.

"Say a curse word. A naughty word."

"Um … "

"C'mon … please?" I wheedle.

"Why?"

"I want to hear Jeff Gordon cuss."

"I thought you didn't know my name."

I level an evil stare at him and say nothing.

He looks at me, that same look he gives me when he's trying to find out if I'm setting him up, teasing him, or am being completely serious.

"C'mon. Break that goody goody image."

"Jasmine?"

God, I love the way he says my name.

What am I saying??

"Hrm?"

"Fuck you."

For the second time tonight, my jaw drops.

Jeff Gordon just cussed.

Jeff Gordon just said fuck.

Jeff Gordon just said fuck you.

To me.

Hee!

I raise an eyebrow instead of laughing and he goes from looking temporarily smug to worried that he offended my delicate feminine sensitivities.

Clearly, this man doesn't know me very well yet.

"Jasmine, I just … "

He said my name again.

"Jeff?" I cut him off.

"Hrm?"

"Fuck you." I say with a wink, before turning on my heel and closing my front door, leaving him standing on the step, a wide grin on his face.
